Title: "With Respect"
Media: Blown glass, copper mesh, laminated block
I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of the natural world and how they relate to human emotion. My artwork incorporates the raw expression of nature while exploring the individualities of human feeling and sensation. I first experience the world through sight and sound, but my passion lies within the secondary sense of touch. For this reason, many of my glass sculptures are made to be viewed not only with the eyes, but with the hands as well. When creating the metal sculptures and jewelry, they are designed with textures and moving components to be handled and explored. Allowing the viewer to discover my artwork tactilely moves them to a more simple plane. This tactile plane is less inhibited by the minds interpretation through sight. Tactility is a function of instinct and allows the person to experience the artwork in a more straightforward way.
Influenced by science, I enjoy incorporating the Psychological aspects of the human experience while balancing the physical beauty of Biology and Chemistry. I have found that the duality of the natural world, so perfect yet imperfect, lends itself well to the expression through glass and metals.
